Q: Describe to us in full detail the Joey Dahlia sound... What gear do 
you use, and what to you is great tone?

A: I am using a Washburn EC 29, Pod Pro,The Truth Monitors,Emagic Logic RS-50 Syth and a MX3282A mixer,I will be loading a video on all my gear very soon. I am just starting to look at tones now, to me a great tone is bright rich distortion.


Q: What do you prefer, Reverb or delay?

A: Well up until a few days ago I used both, but now it's just delay, reverb dulls the tone too much. I have yet to record this way!. But I am learning as I go along.


Q: What did you use to create the backtracks for 'Unite the Clan'?

A: Well there was a killer rhythm guitar in the track, but I pulled it out because I recorded reverb, it was just a little too dark and it was hard to hear the lead. That was my first shred song I recorded about 8 months ago. I knew nothing of tone, so I had to pull it out. The voices are from Roland RS-50.


Q: Please describe in full detail your strengths and weaknesses as a 
guitarist?

A: My strengths-100% self taught, Many, many grueling hrs. I have full control over everthing I do on guitar,left-right hand movement, perfect balance between arps, ostnato's,virbrato,legato. Right now, I am trying to do away with "technique" as much as possible.

My weaknesses? Too new, I need more time, 3 years writing is not long enough! I have yet to find a style of music that I am comfortable with. 


Q: How long have you been playing guitar?

A: 7 years total, 7 years teaching. I played 3 crazy years in 87-90. 2000 until now.



Q:What guitarist would you say influences you most?

A: Malmsteen. I played so hard in 87-90, when I heard him I was devastated. He was unreal,
I am sure you know what I mean when you first heard him. He has been the biggest impact on my life. But that's how high I set my standards.

Q:Any thoughts or tips on playing over chord changes?

A:Yes! Take your time when you have the base work down.Take your time! The longer time you take the different notes you will get used to playing. 



Q:Please define for us what you mean by "exotic"

A: Good question. "Exotic" to me means: Not as fast but completely different from the norm. for example, A basic scale is played in order 12345678910. Exotic - Is in order also, but as 34512697108. try it!! Same notes just in a different order. Like a sweep arpeggio, most players play a basic pattern, I like to play it inside and out. 



Q:What to you defines a great song/piece?

A: Another good question! I cannot worry about what other guitar players think of my music. I write music for myself and if someone else enjoys it than that's a bonus. Would you believe that there are some elementary school teachers that play my music to kids to settle them down for naptime?? So, to me a great song is relaxing, but can be very powerful. 


Q:How important is the web to modern guitarists/musicians?

A: The web has become a very powerful tool no matter what you are researching. The age of technology is now allowing people to interact with people worldwide, something I am still amazed about! I still spend time searching the web for other guitar players to listen to their style. I am thrilled when I receive an email from someone who has done the same thing and likes my music. It allows me to teach other players far and wide without either of us leaving our homes. My instructional site lets you browse through the lessons on your own time and I am just an email away if you need me. I'm working on getting phone lines set up as well so I can assist over the phone or even create a lesson specifically for you. 



Q:Any thoughts on where the future is going to lead you and your music? 
Any particular directions you plan on pursuing?

A: Right now I just want to get my school up and running. It's taking alot longer than I wanted. Writing the tab to each lesson is very hard, I have yet to start writing the master lessons. It would be a dream of mine to open my own recording studio. 



Q:Anyone on the web that you've heard that impressed you? Any players 
that we should look out for?

A: Scott Lerner is awesome. Scott uses an unorthodox choice of notes. 


Q:What should other internet musicians be doing if they want to put 
together a webpage, just curious...?

A: Well I make sure the Guitar always comes first! My site is very basic, but a very powerful tool for a serious player. Most guitar players want to have the coolest website, and that does take time away from your playing!
